Now that I’ve been born again, what do I do? What’s next?
Well, first of all ~ Rejoice! You have been forgiven! All your sins are washed away by the precious blood the Lamb of God – Jesus! He is now YOUR Saviour & Lord!
Ephesians 1:7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;
Make it a habit to talk to God through prayer daily:
Ephesians 6:18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
1 Timothy 2:8 I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.
Matthew 7:7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
In prayer, we talk to the Lord. When you read your Bible, you give God the opportunity to talk to you!
2 Timothy 3:16 All scripture [is] given by inspiration of God, and [is] profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
Those are two of the best habits to establish after you become a Christian. The next best thing you can do is join a local, Gospel preaching, Bible believing church. A church is a community of born again, baptized believers, where Christians encourage and support each other.
Hebrews 10:25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some [is]; but exhorting [one another]: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
Proverbs 27:17 Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.
A church is also a wonderful place to sit under the teaching and preaching of the Word of God, to grow further in the grace and knowledge and love of God, and learn what you need to enjoy life with Jesus in your life.
And then, once you have joined a church, you can ask the Pastor about how to share your faith. Why? Well, if salvation helped you find new life in Christ, the forgiveness of your sins, and peace with God – which is such a wonderful gift from Him – doesn’t it make sense to share these wonderful truths with others?
2 Timothy 1:8 Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;
Mark 16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
Being in a church is also a good way to learn how to worship God.
John 4:24 God [is] a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship [him] in spirit and in truth.
Psalm 150:1 Praise ye the LORD. Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power. 150:2 Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness. 150:3 Praise him with the sound of the trumpet: praise him with the psaltery and harp. 150:4 Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs. 150:5 Praise him upon the loud cymbals: praise him upon the high sounding cymbals. 150:6 Let every thing that hath breath praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD.
In order to a join a church, the Bible teaches that once you are saved, the next step of obedience to the Lord is to be baptized.
Matthew 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
You should also take communion, when your church includes that in the service (it may not be every week).
1 Corinthians 11:26 For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord’s death till he come.
One of God’s commands to those who have trusted Jesus as Saviour is “be holy” to the Lord:
Leviticus 20:7 Sanctify yourselves therefore, and be ye holy: for I [am] the LORD your God.
1 Peter 1:15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;
1 Peter 1:16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.
The word “holy” means to be “separated, set apart” – set apart from the world and your old life, and set apart to God to live a life which will please Him, Who is now your Heavenly Father.
Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what [is] that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
And of course, you should do good to those around you.
James 2:26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.
