CHURCH HISTORY

First Baptist Church of Phoenix, NY began meeting in 1834 with 35 members in a school house. Then on September 2, 1846, the church was organized as the First Free Will Baptist Church, and Pastor John B. Page was chosen as its first pastor. The church was organized by a council from the Gilbert’s Mills church, and has been faithful with the Gospel every since.

The church building was dedicated May 11, 1850, and as the membership grew, and the wooden structure deteriorated, the church then moved to Main St in the spring of 1878. In September of 1916, fire swept through Phoenix, destroying the church along with several community buildings and homes. A new church was built and remains to this day.

The church continued to grow, and the need to expand led to our present location. Under the ministry of Pastor Dean Bult, First Baptist moved to our present location at 16 CO RT 57A in 1974. Since that time, the church has been reaching out to the communities around us with the pure Gospel of Jesus Christ our Lord. We want to continue this work until our Lord comes again to take His bride home to be with Him forevermore.

We are challenge in Scripture to be faithful in preparing the next generation in the work of the Gospel. 2 Timothy 2:2, we find another great mandate given to the church: And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also. We are committed to preparing to this task while preparing for the Coming of Christ, Our desire is to be found faithful.
